The Time-Change Debate
This report briefly discusses our team’s exploration of opinion pieces on secularism in news sources in Lebanon.
The SOM student research team is exploring how secularism is portrayed through news sources in nine countries: Algeria, Belgium, France, Lebanon, Morocco, Québec/Canada, Senegal, Switzerland, and Tunisia. Here we share case study reports on different contemporary controversies related to secularism.
Lebanon
Our first case study is based on a 2023 debate in Lebanon and takes up one French-language daily newspaper with coding in French, and two Arabic-language daily newspapers, with coding translated into English.
